Abbeys- Netley Abbey- Hampshire.

Visiting Netley Abbey is a whirlwind of roundabouts and sayings shouted such as, ‘No you have missed it!’ ‘Where is the turning?’ and ‘You have missed it again!’. Once at 2mph and a gentle roll into the mini car park you are treated beautifully with ancient graffiti, massive windows and all of the colours that the sun can illuminate a piece of stone.

English Heritage say,

‘Netley Abbey is the most complete surviving Cistercian monastery in southern England. After the Suppression of the Monasteries the buildings were converted into a mansion for Sir William Paulet. The ruins now reflect over 800 years of change, during which the abbey was transformed from a monastic house to a mansion house, and later to a romantic ruin.’
