Edgelands-Speke and Garston Coastal Path-Liverpool.

Gloriously hot June weather is perfect for a trip to the river Mersey. The coastal path is a peculiar place, right by a large housing estate, retail park and industrial area . Add an airport further down and it is an edgelands bingo card full house.

After parking up, the signage is clear and you can follow it or go off road onto the desire path, where if you take your eyes off the ball you will fall straight down into various rabbit holes.

Looking across the river you can see Stanlow Oil Refinery, look to the right and see the glorious curve of the river as it turns towards the bar and out to the Irish Sea.

Heading towards the sailing club, Ox-Eye daisies bow to you. It is a beautifully odd place. A Heron starts and stops on the shore waiting to catch its dinner.

Down onto the shore, the boat landing gives you wonderful views across the estuary. The strand line is unfortunately full of lots of plastic litter, the odd toilet seat and shoe.

However, I did find a plastic soldier and a Smartie lid with the letter E on it. It had all come together very nicely.

Go HERE to see the trail and surrounding walks that you can do around this very interesting area.
