Trees- The Allerton Oak-Calderstones Park-Liverpool.

The majestic Allerton Oak in Calderstones Park. The Sessile Oak is thought to be around 1,000 years old and is said to pre-date the Norman Invasion of 1066. That’s quite impressive.

After a lost 20 minutes trying to find it on the other side of the park, I finally, literally stumbled upon it due to an untied shoelace.

I was very impressed and its ancient boughs are beautiful. A lovely old grandad of a tree.

The trunk has a huge split in it where two squirrels could be seen sitting together. This is said to be due from an 1864 gunpowder explosion on a ship called the Lottie Sleigh.

The pictures below show the tree in its midsummer splendour but do go HERE to see images of it all year round.

Go HERE to see a map of how to visit the tree and the surrounding park.
